Time to Switch...

On a motorbike, much like everywhere else, stuff wears out. Some stuff wears out quickly (tyres, brake pads, one’s patience with classic bikes), but other stuff takes time. Forks pit, suspension loses its bounce, paint fades, and switchgear, as if possessed by Beelzebub himself, just stops working. Yes, you’ll take them apart, clean their contact points, ride around for another little while in perfect happiness, but mark my words, they’ll fail again soon afterwards.

Due to this modern and really most unjust phenomenon, our switchgear caters for a variety of bikes, best explained in 2 categories. The first is for riders of commuters, adventure bikes, supermotos, streetfighters and off-road bikes that are being converted for road use. For these, we have quite heavy-set plastic switchgear / switch clusters that give you indicators, high/low beam, horn and kill switch. They’re well made, durable and reasonably good looking, fitting 22mm / 7/8” bars, no problem. They’ll take abuse from the weather, too, and are straight-forward to wire in, if you’re handy with electrics. The beauty with these is that they fit and suit a large variety of bikes, so you’re not restricted by design. That, and they’re all at a very reasonable price point, considering their quality. We’ve also got them for ‘70s style bikes that require metal, chunky controls.

The other side of it, of course, is that of modification of classic bikes, cafe racers, old scramblers, brat bikes, yard builds and so on. To this end, I find that the most demand comes in the form of chrome switchgear, so our range covers 22mm-25mm (7/8” to 1”) bar fitment, but are much more specific in their operation, as no-one wants big chrome clusters. So, for example, some may just be a horn switch, some are horn and indicators; you get my drift. Again, they’re priced at a reasonable level and are more well made than not. With modification, switchgear, like anything that requires a front end rethink, is important to get right, both visually and from a practical standpoint. With that in mind, if you’re going simple and robust, look no further.

One or two of our switches can also be found in wiring & switch kits, designed for spotlights / foglights, as an extension of their wiring.

So have a good look through what we sell, as it covers a wide range of choice and styles.
